SPREAD THE WORD: INTRO TO PRINTMAKING & TYPOGRAPHY
Art I explores text-based art in this unit, in which students further their creative skills and critical understandings of visual communication. Curriculum content addresses: printmaking; art historical studies of text-based art, with an emphasis on its role in social, philosophical, and political contexts; and design studies of text and negative/positive space. The unit culminates with students creating and disseminating stencil prints.
Art I students are in grades 9-12, and have typically had little to no formal visual art education, previously. Assessments include critique, self-evaluation of project parameters, and written reflection. Students update their personal portfolio websites with documentation of each project.
