DIY SKETCHBOOKS

Art I students learn bookbinding practices and create dynamic artist books that will host their notes and drawing exercises for the year. All surface designs are sub-probjects used to build foundational technical and conceptual skills, including: symbolic representation, abstraction, technical refinement, design processes, and materials studies. This challenging projects facilitates students to think critically about everyday objects, and includes many built-in supports for students of all levels. Art I students are in grades 9-12, and have typically had little to no formal visual art education, previously. Assessments include: critique, self-evaluation of project parameters, written reflection. Students update their personal portfolio websites with documentation of each project.
